Vehicle Crime since 01/01/2017

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner did not have the information requested.

Dear West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner,

I am seeking accurate information from 01/01/2017 to the present:

1. vehicle theft numbers by manufacturer month on month

2. meeting notes related to vehicle crime

3. the evidence vehicle security/bypass (keyless theft) is to blame for increased car thefts

4. the number of prosecutions for possession of vehicle security bypass/interference (all technology-related vehicle theft methods) thefts

5. the developments tackling the security weaknesses that are said to exist in many keyless cars.

Yours faithfully,

Phil Swift

The Taskforce will work to improve vehicle security standards, introduce tough new procedures for the salvage industry and to restrict the sale of tools, both mechanical and electronic, which can be used to steal vehicles.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-birm...
In 2018, 7,452 cars were stolen in the West Midlands Police force area compared to 2,521 in 2015.

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/mi...
Earlier this year it was revealed that the number of car thefts in the West Midlands reached record levels in 2018, with 10,311 cars being stolen, compared with just 4,518 in 2015

https://www.expressandstar.com/news/crim...
More than 100 cars are stolen in the West Midlands Police area every day, new figures reveal.

David Jamieson, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, vows to reveal vehicle theft stats in the region for each brand every six months

https://www.daily-news-media.com/police-...
The recent figures provided by Mr Jamieson show vehicle thefts in the area had risen 196 per cent in the last three years – especially due to the spike in keyless vehicle crime – and suggests that Fords are most often earmarked as easy targets by thieves.
