Vacant industrial premises

The request was successful.

Dear Leeds City Council,

I would be grateful if you could provide a list of all industrial properties (not just properties owned by the council) across the city which are currently classed as vacant for rating purposes, with an RV greater than £2600.

Where possible, please also provide details of ownership of said properties.

Please provide this information in Excel spreadsheet format.

Yours faithfully,

Cian O'Carroll

Dear Leeds City Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Leeds City Council's handling of my FOI request 'Vacant industrial premises'.

I would like to give you my reasons for requesting this information as it conflicts with the reasons you give for refusing to supply it. As a Chartered Surveyor, I have an active interest in vacant commercial property as I have a number of clients who are looking to occupy space in the area. As part of your reason for refusing to supply the information was that vacant property attracts criminal activity, I would have thought it would be in the council's best interests to have said vacant properties occupied, thus reducing the potential for criminal activity.

Furthermore, I find it highly unlikley that squatters etc would use this website as a place to find vacant properties to squat in. I believe it is much more likely that they would see "To Let" or "For Sale" boards on vacant properties and be able to tell from there whether they are vacant or not. If said squatters were intent on using the internet to find vacant premises, I would have thought that agents websites would also have been the place that they would first look.

I have requested this information from various other councils in the area, all of whom have provided the information. Where the property is owned by an individual, they have left the space blank. I see no reason therefore why your council should be any different.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:
