Sam from medConfidential

Dear HM Passport Office,

This request relates to a previous FOI request you have answered, with your reference FOICR 54795/19, and which is available publicly at https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s...

Relating to the HMPO Photo checking service covered in that previous FOI, can you please provide:

1) any end reports or final outputs from each round of user research which covered the photo checking service; (if no such reports or outputs were produced, please provide whatever the user research staff produced to share with the rest of the project team in 2019)

2) any Service Assessment from either HMPO, the Home Office, or the Government Digital Service which covered the photo checking service (sensitive information that does not relate to the checking service can be redacted from the documents - it is the photo checking service that is of interest) prior to entering beta or live stages of service

To limit the scope of this request, we only require documents produced since 1st January 2019.

with thanks,
Sam Smith

Dear HMPO,

Thank you for asking me to clarify the request.

Relating to part 1) please limit your search to the user research sessions that resulted in comment released under my previously referenced FOI request, where you stated:
"The example photos contained within our guidance use models from a range of ethnicities. This approach has been appreciated and acknowledged by people participating in our user research." I presume that your statement there was accurate, although if HMPO made up all such appreciation and acknowledgement, confirmation of such would constitute a response to this part;

Relating to part 2) given there will have been one service assessment to enter beta, and a second to enter live, (and possibly an earlier third to enter beta), this is only two or three documents, and so it is unclear how your “thousands” obfuscation can apply to this part.

I hope this clarification is helpful

Yours sincerely,
Sam Smith

Dear FOI,

To repeat so everything is in one place, the below as made on 1st November 2019 relates to a previous FOI request you have answered, with your reference FOICR 54795/19, and which is available publicly at https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s...

Relating to the HMPO Photo checking service and particularly your response in previous FOI, can you please provide:

1) any end reports or final outputs from each round of user research which covered the photo checking service; (if no such reports or outputs were produced, please provide whatever the user research staff produced to share with the rest of the project team in 2019)

2) any Service Assessment from either HMPO, the Home Office, or the Government Digital Service, which covered the photo checking service prior to entering beta or live stages of service (sensitive information that does not relate to the checking service can be redacted from the documents - it is the photo checking service that is of interest)

To repeat previous clarifications:

For part 1) you may limit your search to the user research sessions that resulted in the comment released under my previously referenced FOI request which was: "The example photos contained within our guidance use models from a range of ethnicities. This approach has been appreciated and acknowledged by people participating in our user research." I presume that your statement there was accurate, although if HMPO made up all such appreciation and acknowledgement, confirmation of such would constitute a response to this part;

Of course, if there were no "people" who "appreciated and acknowledged" "this approach", you are welcome to simply confirm that HMPO made the comments up.

Relating to part 2) there will have been one service assessment for the service to enter 'beta' phase of use, and a second to go from 'beta' to 'live', (and possibly an earlier third to enter beta). As such, this is only two or three documents, and so it is unclear how your “thousands” of documents reference in your previous reply can apply to this part.

If terms in this request are unclear, please refer to the Cabinet Office's Technology Code of Practice (particularly but not exclusively point 12)

Yours sincerely,
Sam Smith
