Dear Ms Ferguson,

Further to your request for information received 01/07/2022 in relation
to-Councils use of Pesticides. Your request has been processed in
accordance with the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and,
accordingly, please see the response below.

Do you manage your open spaces yourself or are they are outsourced?

Open spaces owned or leased by Newry Mourne Down Council are managed in
house.

If they are outsourced, what is the name of the company/companies that
manage them? N/A

What is your policy for weed control in the open spaces - parks, sports
fields, grass verges etc?

Weed control is managed primarily by mechanical cutting.

Do you use herbicides containing glyphosate eg Roundup, Weedol etc If yes,
what do you use What areas have been sprayed with herbicides containing
glyphosate?

Glyphosate is used in a controlled manner where mechanical cutting or
manual weeding is not an option.

What is your policy on the use of glyphosate?

The Council in January 2020 made the following commitment:

‘To undertake a 12-month review with a target to phase out completely the
use of herbicides containing glyphosate for controlling weeds and invasive
species on Council property within 3 years or as soon as possible.’

What precautions were taken ahead of its use?

All staff members using sprays have PA1 and PA6 certification. All areas
are risk assessed prior to, during and after applications.

For the calendar years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, please can you
tell me:

The volume of these herbicides you have you used The cost
