Use of Fire Engines for Shopping Trips

The request was successful.

Dear Scottish Fire and Rescue Service,

Can you please supply me with a copy of your Standard Operating Procedures in realtion to the use of Fire Engines for non Fire and Rescue purposes, IE, personal errands, shopping trips, delivering goods etc.

Can you also supply information relating to the following:

Kilwinning Fire Station:

How many trips has the Fire Engines at this station recorded for travelling to and from Morrisons Supermarket, Stevenson for non Fire and Rescue journeys?

What vehicle and liability insurance coverage is provided for your Fire Engines to be used for non operational journeys?

How many crew members are within a fully manned Engine on such trips to local supermarkets?

How much in fuel is spent on such trips?

If the average Engine is away for approx 30 minutes per visit to a supermarket, how much does this cost per engine in salary payments etc?

Does Kilwinning Fire Station have its own kitchen staff?

Who supplies the food for said Kitchen/Canteens?

Does The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Operational Policies allow fully staffed Fire Engines to leave its station and drive to supermarkets to allow crew to fill a trolley for the staff canteen?

Yours faithfully,

Robert James
