Please could you provide the following details about the A27 Reference Group as an update to my previous request on 15 December, 2015, i.e. things that have happened since that request was made:

Dear Rebecca Harper,

What I mean by lobbying is the dictionary definition:

"to try to persuade a politician, the government, or an official group that a particular thing should or should not happen, or that a law should be changed"

In this instance I am referring to activity carried out by officers or councillors to influence Government Ministers and other officials, such as from the Department for Transport, Highways England, Treasury, etc. that either more money should be allocated to the A27 east of Lewes, or that a new A27 (east of Lewes) should feature in the next Roads Investment Strategy, or both.

I trust this clarifies my request.

Yours sincerely,

Chris Todd

Dear Mr. Todd,

FOI Request ref:  7168 / Update on A27 Reference Group

Thank you for your request for information about the above, which has been
dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Your
request and our response are set out below. Please note that any
information we provide is subject to the copyright and reuse of
information terms and conditions set out at the bottom of this email.

REQUEST

Please could you provide the following details about the A27 Reference
Group as an update to my previous request on 15 December, 2015, i.e.
things that have happened since that request was made:

1). How much has East Sussex County Council (ESCC) spent in supporting the
A27 Reference Group,  including any money for consultants working on A27
studies or related issues?

2). Any reports produced on the A27, or on the perceived need for an
expanded A27 linked to other issues, such as Gatwick Airport, that the A27
Reference Group or ESCC has been involved in?

3). Details of any lobbying that ESCC councillors or officers have been
involved with in relation to the A27?

4). Minutes of the meetings held since 15 December 2015?

RESPONSE

1).           There was been no cost to use either a room at County Hall
or the Houses of Parliament where the meetings have been held. With
regards to refreshments, none were provided in the Houses of Parliament
and on the                 three occasions refreshments were provided at
County Hall, the Director for Communities, Economy and Transport provided
them from his personal supply of refreshment items (tea, coffee and milk
etc) paid for from      his own money. So no costs were incurred for
refreshments at any of the meetings.

No funding has been spent to date on consultants working on A27 studies.

2).           There are no consultant reports produced on the A27, or on
the perceived need for an expanded A27, that the A27 Reference Group or
ESCC have been involved in.

3).

·         There were various meetings held in 2014 in relation to the A27
feasibility improvement study led by Highway England (and its consultants)
and DfT officials which ESCC officers attended to make the case for
improvements to the A27 east of Lewes.

·         ESCC officers attended a meeting with Highways England (and its
consultants) and DfT officials in June 2015 regarding the A27
improvements.

·         An ESCC officer attended a meeting with local MPs and the Roads
Minister in November 2015 regarding the A27 improvements.

·         ESCC officers attended a meeting with County Councillors, the
local MPs, Highways England (and its consultants) and DfT officials in
January 2016 regarding the A27 improvements.

·         An ESCC officer attended the A27 workshop led by Highways
England (and its consultants) which was held in April 2016.
