Update of Newbyers Crescent site

The request was successful.

Dear Midlothian Council,

I am interested in any updates about the site of the demolished properties at Newbyers Crescent in Gorebridge. Given the long waiting list for public housing, it would be good to know the Council's intention for the site.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,
Paul Davidson

Gareth Davies, Midlothian Council

Dear Mr Davidson,

I refer to you Freedom of Information Request in respect ‘the site of the
demolished properties at Newbyers Crescent in Gorebridge’ and with regard
to which you have requested that  ‘Given the long waiting list for public
housing, it would be good to know the Council's intention for the site’.

I can confirm the following advice received from the Councils Construction
Management team responsible for the development of new housing sites who
state that;

“Council colleagues continue to work towards a solution addressing a
number of challenging issues regarding the development of the site.

Gas mitigation measures are required for this project which has been the
subject of ongoing review and development with specialist advisors
involved. Further site investigation has been requested and is to be
carried out in the next few months to clarify some remaining issues. There
has also been significant liaison with Scottish Water colleagues recently
to address the waste water and surface water drainage requirements for the
site, which have proved challenging with standards regarding capacity
changing recently.

It remains the Council’s full intention to deliver 75 housing units on
this site and the ambition, assuming all the above issues can be resolved,
is to commence works in Q2 2022. The definitive start date, given the
above, cannot be confirmed at this time.”

I apologise for the delay in providing you with this response but trust
this answers you question.

Please note that an applicant who is dissatisfied with the way in which
the Council has dealt with his/her request for information under section
1(1) of the FOISA, may, by virtue of section 20 of the FOISA, require the
Council to review its actions and/or decisions in relation to that
request.

If you wish the Council to review its actions and/or decisions with
respect to your request for information, you should reply in writing to me
so that I can arrange for your application for review to be considered.
Thereafter, the appropriate officer will write to you informing you of the
decision by not later than twenty working days after receipt of your
request requiring that a review be made. By virtue of section 21 of the
FOISA, you will be provided with a statement of reasons for arriving at
the decision made. If you require any further information please do not
hesitate to contact me.

Yours Sincerely
