Dear University of Liverpool

I would like to know the following information in relation to medical undergraduates studying the 5 year medical course A100, MBChB:

Regarding students taking their first year exams in academic year 2016/2017
How many students sat the final exams for the first year of the course in academic year 2016/2017?
Of those students who sat the final first year exams how many or what percentage failed one or more modules?
Of the students that failed one or more modules how many or what percentage passed after re-sitting their exams in the Aug/Sept of 2017?
Of the students that did not pass after re-sitting their exams in academic year 2016/2017
how many or what percentage re-sat the exams as external candidates in academic year 2017/2018?
For second year students studying the 5 year medical undergraduate course in academic year 2016/17 how many students sat the final second year exams?
Of those students what percentage passed?
For second year students studying the 5 year medical undergraduate course in academic year 2016/17 how many students sat the final second year exams?
Of those students what percentage passed?

What is the university's policy on students who fail their second year at medical school? Can students re-sit any of their second year medical school exams?

Please answer as many of the above questions as possible.
Should you have the information requested in a different format but in essence gives most or all of the above information then please provide that information.
I would definitely like to know your passing / failing rates for first and second year medical undergraduate course.

Dear Ms Bennet,

 

Thank you for your email of received 12^th June 2018 requesting
information concerning medicine pass rates.  I am pleased to provide the
information requested as set out below:-

 

Regarding students taking their first year exams in academic year
2016/2017 How many students sat the final exams for the first year of the
course in academic year 2016/2017? 260

Of those students who sat the final first year exams how many or what
percentage failed one or more modules? 16%

Of the students that failed one or more modules how many or what
percentage passed after re-sitting their exams in the Aug/Sept of 2017?
37%

Of the students that did not pass after re-sitting their exams in academic
year 2016/2017 how many or what percentage re-sat the exams as external
candidates in academic year 2017/2018? 0 - only internal resit candidates
in medicine.

For second year students studying the 5 year medical undergraduate course
in academic year 2016/17 how many students sat the final second year
exams?

Of those students what percentage passed? 285 / 20%

For second year students studying the 5 year medical undergraduate course
in academic year 2016/17 how many students sat the final second year
exams?

Of those students what percentage passed? 285 / 20% - this question is
identical to the previous one

What is the university's policy on students who fail their second year at
medical school? Can students re-sit any of their second year medical
school exams?

The university policy is that students are permitted one resit attempt for
all summative assessments across all years
