 1. How many trade union reps are there working at the college?

We are awaiting the results of the trade union annual general meetings
where reps are confirmed. We will provide the number once received.

 

 2. How much time do reps get for their union duties?

1.5 FTE (full time equivalent) time for trade union activities / 55
working hours' worth of duties.

 

 3. How many full time union reps are there?

No-one carries out their representative duties in a full time capacity.

 

 4. Can you give me a copy of your handbook or any other documents you
have in relation to the duties performed by union reps?

The duties are related to the following areas:

 

o Pay
o Terms and conditions of employment
o Sickness, maternity and other leave of absence
o Staff disciplinary, grievance and capability procedures
o Clarification, monitoring and interpretation of collective agreements
o Matters relating to the engagement or non-engagement, suspension or
termination of employment, including recruitment procedures and
redundancy and dismissal arrangements
o Other issues relevant to the promotion of efficiency within the
College and the management of staff
o Staff development and training
o Working practices and allocation of work duties (including job
grading, job descriptions, flexible working and work-life balance)
o Equal opportunities and diversity
o Time off and Facilities for Trade Union representatives
o Health, safety and welfare matters
o Mergers and acquisitions of other institutions and businesses
o Union membership, including involvement in induction of new staff
