Transport Committee Hearing

Department for Transport did not have the information requested.

Sir,

Transport Committee Hearing
SVD got the commitment 3 years ago. 18% of Smart Motorways have SVD fitted.

What 18%
On what date was it fitted to each?
Mr Wilson, present, told a 2016 hearing SVD would be standard on smart motorways going forward.

which smart motorways had SVD fitted as standard roll out since the 2016 hearing and which have not and why not?
Mr Sullivan said the system would be fitted in 2020.

In 2016 Mr Wilson implied SVD would be retrofitted.

Since the 2016 hearing, which smart motorways had SVD fitted retrospectively which have not and why not.

Mr Sullivan said it has not been worked out how to retrofit the equipment.

Who is the equipment supplied and who tendered and how was the supplier chosen.

Thank you.

Edward Cole

Dear RIS Correspondence,
Can you review your response because Highway England has refused? In 2016 a committee was told retrofit could occur. Now a committee is told it did not occur. I am told it could not occur.
Yours sincerely,
Edward Cole

RIS Correspondence, Department for Transport

Dear Mr Cole,

Thank you for your email of 13 December 2019, asking for a review of our response to your recent FOI request regarding stopped vehicle detection (SVD).

I am aware that Highways England has responded to most of your request except for information about the tendering process and award of contract for the SVD system, which was withheld by Highways England under the provisions of Section 43 of the FoI Act on the grounds that this information is commercially sensitive. You may however wish to make a request for an Internal Review to Highways England for the information it withheld.

Highways England is responsible for the procurement process for SVD and this is not information that the Department for Transport holds.

Kind regards,
