Dear Mr Millar

Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Release of Information

Subject: Tram Fares

Thank you for your request for information which has been dealt with under
the terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. Your request
for information has been considered and the information is enclosed.

Your request:

Please provide information on the predicted level of fare on the Edinburgh
tram, in years 1, 6, and 11, for the following ticket types, identified in
the report to the council 'Edinburgh Tram – Preparing for operations'
dated 22 August 2013, and used to forecast revenues in the financial
forecast:

o Single Tickets, Adult/Child (year 1, 6, 11)

o Daytickets, Adult/Child (year 1, 6, 11)

o Ingliston Park & Ride Single & Return Tickets, Adult/Child (year 1, 6,
11)

o Airport Single & Return Tickets, Adult/Child (year 1, 6, 11)

Response:

The prices as at date of commencement of revenue service are as set out on
the attached.

For financial modelling purposes, prices are assumed to rise in relation
to the rate of RPI (estimated at 2.5% per annum). This assumption,
combined with assumptions on patronage growth, drives the overall revenue
in future years. This is not to say that each individual fare will rise at
precisely this rate every year. Some fares will change each year but it is
unlikely that all fares will change in each year. This is partly because
cash fares tend to move in increments which are easy for passengers to put
together as an exact fare (the regime used on buses). By applying
increases in this way awkward values are avoided (e.g. £1.63, which
requires a minimum of four coins).

To promote transparency and accountability, please note it is the
Council’s policy to publish all request details and responses made under
freedom of information legislation. This information will be made
available through the Council’s website and will not include your personal
details.

Dear City of Edinburgh Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of City of Edinburgh Council's handling of my FOI request 'Tram Fares'.

The response has stated that the ticket prices will rise in line with RPI, assumed to be 2.5%. This information does not correspond with the large increase in revenue/pax at year 6 and 11 in the 'Edinburgh Tram – Preparing for operations' report dated 22 August 2013.

Please review the information sent and, for clarity, provide a similar presentation of information for years 6 and 11 as provided for year 1 in line with the revenue per passenger figures in the report.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/t...

Yours faithfully,

Chris Millar
