Dear Dr Mukherjee

We refer to your email of 31 October 2021 requesting information relating
to the recruitment of Training Programme Directors, held by Health
Education England (HEE).

HEE can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 (FOIA) that we do hold some information relevant to your
request.

I will address each of your questions in turn:

1. How are the TPDs recruited?

TPDs are recruited through an open, competitive and transparent process
led by the senior PGMDE teams in each of our offices. Person
specifications and job descriptions are circulated when there is a
vacancy, with applications invited through NHS jobs.

Please note that secondary care TPDs are normally employed on a secondment
basis from their host Trust basis, rather than directly employed by HEE.
Primary Care and Dental TPDs are different and dependent on local
arrangements they may be directly employed by HEE or through a Lead
Employer Trust on secondment basis similar to secondary care TPDs.

2. Once recruited, for how many years maximum at a time can a TPD hold the
position before the role is re-advertised again?

The usual duration of any seconded post into HEE such as this would be for
3 years, renewable to 6 in total. It may be longer for those employed
directly by HEE due to UK employment law.

We hope that this information is of use. If you are dissatisfied with the
way in which we have dealt with your request you can ask us to review our
decision by writing to:
