Trading Standards test purchases on shops selling knives

The request was successful.

Dear Southwark Borough Council,

Please can Southwark Council provide me with statistics for how many times Trading Standards carried out 'test purchases' of items legally defined as knives in shops the Borough of Southwark, for each calendar year from 2010 to 2017 (and the day this request was made).

For each year, can the council provide me with statistics for how many of those test purchases resulted in a shop failing their test.

Between the years 2010 and 2017, can the council tell me how many times sellers failed a test purchase more than once? I.e. they were been repeat offenders.

Can the council tell me how many times, between 2010 and 2017, Trading Standards attempted to prosecute shops for selling knives to people under the age of 18.

Can the council tell me how many of those prosecutions have resulted in a criminal conviction?

As per Section 16 of the Act, could you please provide me advice on how best to make this request should you encounter problems retrieving this information.

Yours faithfully,
Owen Sheppard
