Time taken from grant of Permission to Appeal to notification of hearing dates, and the hearing itself

Doug Paulley made this Freedom of Information request to Supreme Court of the United Kingdom This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Supreme Court of the United Kingdom,

Through your helpful response to a previous FOI request, I understand that the Court aims to inform parties of the date of the substantive hearing within four sitting weeks of their decision to grant Permission to Appeal, and that the substantive hearing itself should generally be within 9 months, subject to parties' diaries. The first is a performance indicator in the business plan and the second is in the annual report.

I wonder if you could please confirm my understanding as of above, and provide any other internal or external guidance as to the time taken by the Supreme Court to give a date of hearing and for the hearing to take place.

Please could you also provide some cogent statistics on the length of time that has actually occurred in non-urgent cases, i.e. what is the norm for the time taken for applicants to be communicated the date of the hearing and the time taken from the permission of appeal to the hearing itself.

Thank you

Yours faithfully,

Doug Paulley
