The 'South East'

The request was successful.

Dear High Speed Two (HS2) Limited,

Over the last few months, one of the standard tropes we have seen in the press from HS2 Ltd, the DfT and various lobbyists is:

'HS2 will link over 25 towns and cities from Scotland through to the South East, joining up nearly half of the UK population and is set to deliver £92bn of benefits to the UK economy.'

Given that London is not considered to be part of the South East in political terms, please explain where in the 'South East' HS2 is intended to go.

Yours faithfully,

Joe Rukin

FOI-19-3251 (Request and acknowledgement copied at the end of this thread)

Dear High Speed Two (HS2) Limited,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of High Speed Two (HS2) Limited's handling of my FOI request 'The 'South East''.

I would thank you for responding to my request within the set time frame for once, however as always, it seems to be one step forward and two steps back.

I specifically requested for you to specify which stations in the 'South East' HS2 is supposedly serves, pointing out that in political terms, London is not in the South East. In response, you have sent me a link to a list of the stations HS2 is supposed to serve. Now I don't know if your are being deliberately obtuse or having a laugh, but you may not have noticed that this does not answer my question.

I have very specifically asked which stations that would be served are in the South East. You have sent me a complete list of stations. This does not specify which of these stations are in the South East.

As such, it is possible to interpret your response in two ways:

a) I have asked for a list of station in the South East, you have sent me a link to a list of all of your stations; therefore you believe that ALL of your proposed stations are in the South East.

b) You have provided a list of stations, and I can see that none of them are in the South East. I already knew that, it's why I came up with the FOIA request in the first place. Therefore your response to my FOIA request is incorrect. Whilst you have said you do hold information in relation to my request, in reality you do not hold any such information, as no information about HS2-served stations in the South East exists, because there are no such stations.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/t...

Yours faithfully,

Joe Rukin
