The Home Secretary's use of end-to-end encryption messaging services
Dear Home Office,
Yesterday the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, said that the use of end-to-end encyption across Facebook's messaging services could hamper criminal investigations. She said "We cannot allow a situation where law enforcement's ability to tackle abhorrent criminal acts and protect victims is severely hampered".
Given that the Home Secretary herself is known to use Facebook's end-to-end encrypted messaging service, Whatsapp, I am therefore requesting the content of the last 20 messages the Home Secretary sent over Whatsapp, so that the privacy of end-to-end encyption cannot hamper the public's right to hold public servants accountable.
Yours faithfully,
John Lubbock
