Dear Cardiff University,

I am writing to you for a Request of information about the financial situation of the university for journalism purposes, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

Can you provide information to the following questions?

1) What is the amount that the university received in funds for research from the government in the last five academic years (2013-2014; 2014-2015; 2015-2016; 2016-2017; 2017-2018)? Please provide in a CSV format, if possible.

2) What is the amount that the university borrowed from banks, private investors and the international bond markets in the last five academic years (2013-2014; 2014-2015; 2015-2016; 2016-2017; 2017-2018)? The information should be broken down by organization or company name, year per year, and please provide in a CSV format, if possible.

3) What is the average salaries of lecturers in the last five academic years (2013-2014; 2014-2015; 2015-2016; 2016-2017; 2017-2018)? Please provide in a CSV format, if possible.

4) What is the average tuition fees of international students in the last five academic years (2013-2014; 2014-2015; 2015-2016; 2016-2017; 2017-2018)? Please provide in a CSV format, if possible.

Your request will now be dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and has been allocated reference FOI18-407 which should be quoted in all correspondence. We will respond to your request within 20 working days starting the next working day after receipt, therefore you can expect to receive a response no later than 2 January 2019.

Where we consider that we will not be able to meet this deadline or if further time is required to consider the public interest test we will contact you as soon as possible and give you a revised date for response.

For ease of reference, I have reproduced your questions below and set out
our corresponding responses.

 

1) What is the amount that the university received in funds for research
from the government in the last five academic years (2013-2014; 2014-2015;
2015-2016; 2016-2017; 2017-2018)?  Please provide in a CSV format, if
possible.

 

This information is available within our financial statements which can be

Accordingly this information is reasonably accessible to you by other
means and is exempt from disclosure under section 21 of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

 

Under s22 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 we are not obliged to
provide information that is due for future publication.  Cardiff
University’s financial period runs to 31 July each year.  The annual
accounts contain information on funds for research from the government. 
Information for the 2017/18 financial year will be available to the public
in January 2019 on our website at

. We are not aware of any pressing public interest in providing the
information earlier than the expected publication date.

The average tuition fee for international students is not held. 
Information on income from international students is available within our
financial statements which can be found on our website at:

Fees for international students are available on the University website
and will depend on the course studied, the duration of the course and the
level of study.
