Television Programmes Funded by The Home Office

Wayne Pearsall made this Freedom of Information request to Home Office This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was refused by Home Office.

Dear Home Office,

In 2008, it was reported that the Home Office had paid £400,000 to fund the series UK Border Force for Sky television.

I am aware that the funds were later returned to "avoid controversy", however, for the purposes of my FOI request, such funding was still provided.

I ask:

1) Please detail all instances available since the initial funding of the UK Border Force series of any television programmes funded by The Home Office.

a) How much money
b) The date the funds were paid
c) the series / programme / film it was funding
d) the job role of the individual who authorised the funding
e) the reasoning behind the funding, and how the Home Office justified the clear misuse of taxpayer money.

Yours faithfully,

Wayne Pearsall

Dear Home Office,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Home Office's handling of my FOI request 'Television Programmes Funded by The Home Office'.

Vexatious... Really?

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/t...

Wayne,

Please take this comment in the spirit in which it is intended.

I suspect you have hampered your own case by including the following in your request:

'...and how the Home Office justified the clear misuse of taxpayer money'

In other words, you have shown a clear agenda of discrediting ANY Home Office funding of TV programs even before having the information of how much was provided and the reasons for the funding. There may be many and various right and proper reasons why the Home Office might wish to fund TV programms so I can see how your request might be construed as vexatious.

More care taken over the crafting of your requests might yield greater success.

I have hampered my case by the number of requests I have made. We have the bbc for impartialality. Have you not noticed that cops. Motorway police. Border force etc... non of them seam to be at all impartial. ...

I have no doubt that some use comes from the programmes. Hence the word misuse as opposed to waste...

And the fact is... if the home office do indeed have a right and proper reason for the funding ... they could take up the the opportunity to provide this reason.

so what this internal review concludes is that I cannot make ANY FOI Requests to the Home Office, as they will obviously be either Immigration based, or Internal Working Proceedures based? - thats nice... lol

You naughty boy Wayne - you have asked far too many questions and you know they don't like that! When they ignore you and your questions, you are supposed to scuttle back to the little rock you are hiding under. No-one dares to question the UKBA - Home Office - whatever they call themselves, as we all know you will get absolutely NOWHERE - they simply ignore you, or call you vexatious. Remember I caught them passing my CID notes around to each other, and they have still absolutely ignored my request to explain this. If you were earning the kinds of amounts that the Upper ranking civil servants - that's what they call themselves - earn - then you would not want anything to rock your boat. Keep at it Wayne - write to the ICO - for all the good that does - but at least its on record. As for the Judges - none of them read anything BEFORE - they sift through the notes ON THE DAY - hence they have no clue what is going on - its all quite disgusting actually when they hold peoples lives in their hands.
