Tax take from pension freedoms

The request was refused by HM Revenue and Customs.

Dear HM Revenue and Customs,

I am writing to request the tax paid to HMRC as a result of the pension freedoms.

Clearly, the information for this will not be held all in one place.

However, pension scheme administrators are required to note flexible access of pension pots under data item 168. This is described here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/sy...

Providers are not compelled to use this data note until next year, but I understand many have already begun using it.

Could you give me the amount of money flagged with data item 168, and the corresponding tax paid on payments?

Yours faithfully,

Sam Brodbeck

Thank you for your communication of 7 October 2015 which has been passed to HMRC’s Freedom of Information Team.

We have allocated the above reference which you should quote if you need to contact us.

The Team will arrange for a reply to be sent to you which will either comply with HMRC’s obligations under Freedom of Information Act or, if we think it’s an enquiry that we don’t need to address under the terms of the Act, let you know why. If it is the latter we will, if possible, pass it on to a more appropriate part of the Department for answer.
