Dear London Metropolitan University,

I would like to request the information which is detailed below. I would prefer to receive this information in electronic format to this address, however, I am also able to receive information by post if necessary.

Please confirm receipt of this request.

If the documents requested contain information not disclosable under Freedom of Information, please clearly mark that these sections have been removed.

1. In the past three years have to you sought or successfully pursued any legal action, civil, disciplinary or criminal, against participants in 'protests' such as occupations at the university, this could include (but is not limited to) injunctions against occupations or trespass cases?
a. Please provide all documents relating to these cases. Details should include, but not be limited to, any affidavits, witness statements and other evidence given support of such an injunction.

2. How much money has the university spent (including but not limited to) on these cases. Please provide a breakdown by case, and if possible costs, e.g. court fees, legal expenses, etc.

3. How many disciplinaries have you conducted against students for protest related offences in the past 3 years?

4. How many of the aforementioned disciplinaries against students have been upheld (where the student have been found 'guilty')?

5. Please provide copies of any injunctions relating to protest situations (including but not limited to occupations) which you have taken out in this time period.

I write further to your request for information dated 7 April 2014.  This
request has been handled by the University in accordance with its duties
and obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 ("FOIA"). 
 
You requested details of:
1. In the past three years have to you sought or successfully pursued any
legal action, civil, disciplinary or criminal, against participants in
'protests' such as occupations at the university, this could include (but
is not limited to) injunctions against occupations or trespass cases?
        a. Please provide all documents relating to these cases. Details

For the ease of reference, I adopt the numbering used by you above.
1. In May 2011 a Possession Order was sought/obtained in relation to a
student occupation of the     Graduate Centre.
    In March 2013 a Possession Order was obtained related to the
occupation of the Women's           Library in Aldgate. 

a. The University declines this part of your request as witness
statements are subject to Legal Professional Privilege in accordance
with s.42 FOIA, as they were created for use in litigation. 

2. Graduate Centre (May 2011) - £6,818.80 (legal expenses £6,643.80, court
fees £175)
    Women's Library (March 2013) - £34,126.92 
3. No disciplinaries have been conducted against students for protest
related offences in the past     3 years.
4. N/A
5. Copies of the injunction obtained on 9 May 2011 regarding the
occupation of the Graduate             Centre and the Possession Order
obtained on 9 March 2013 regarding the occupation of the         Women's
Library are attached.

NB. Please note copies of the injunctions have been redacted where they
contain third party personal data under s.40(2) FOIA
