Dear Ms Wilde,

We have completed the compilation of information in response to your
request.

We can confirm that we do hold some information of the description
specified in your request. Our responses are given below each limb of your
request.

******** FOI RESPONSE ************

a) The number of student deaths in each calendar year of 2018, 2019, 2020,
2021, as well as the first quarter of 2022 (with separate figures for each
year please);

Please note –

Data for year 2018 is not held centrally in an easily searchable
aggregated format. In order to locate the information requested we would
need to go out to each individual School and Department at the University
for information they hold. Therefore, information in respect of this year
is cost refused, under section 12 of the FOIA, as we estimate we cannot
locate this information within cost limits of the FOIA.

Data for years 2019 onwards is recorded centrally by Student Services and
as such we are able to locate this within cost limits, and this is
provided below.

2019 - 6

2020 - 4

2021 - 4

first quarter of 2022 - 2

b) Of these, the number of student deaths recorded as suicide by a coroner
in each calender year of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, as well as the first
quarter of 2022;

Please note that while the University holds a complete and official record
for the number of students who died, the cause of death is not routinely
logged. Details of the cause of death are held by the coroner as a matter
of public record. These are not habitually recorded and therefore the
University does not hold information specifically on the number of
suicides.

c) For each death recorded as suicide by a coroner, the date of death;

No information held. Please see response to question b.

d) For each death recorded as suicide by a coroner, the campus or college
which the student had been attending (if your institution has more than
one college/campus).

No information held. Please see response to question b.
