Student data: linkage and use of personal data under Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act 2015

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy did not have the information requested.

Dear Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy,

Please accept this request under your obligations of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

With reference to part 6 of the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act 2015 (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015...) and provision of "destinations data" to higher education institutions in England and Wales, and using as a sample only the most recent time period, please provide:

1) a sample original copy of the format in which data was most recently returned to the institutions showing only but all the field names supplied, not the data itself, in one example of what the most complete a return could be.

2) the sources of the data provided. (ie HMRC, DWP and the database name).

3) the number of individuals' data provided under the concept of 'destination information' to institutions in England and Wales within the further education sector.

4) break this down by institution name.

5) Please confirm that this data is on an individual level and that no small numbers suppression is applied as these data are not supplied as statistics but at individal level.

I would ask for this in the format it is easiest to provide, for example, an excel spreadsheet with tables, and the original return format for (1) either as a file or as a pdf showing the complete template.

Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Jen Persson

Dear FOI Requests,
thank you for the reply. I refer to Nick Boles' evidence given In January 2016, to committee as Minister for Skills, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

http://data.parliament.uk/writtenevidenc...

"We did a huge study of more than half a million data points, matching up people who had completed level
2 and 3 apprenticeships and their incomes three to five years later. It was the first time this had ever been available. For some reason, we were able to do it with our data in a way that was not yet—though it
is now—possible with education data."

I would be grateful if you can consider the request again, and provide the information as was relevant for the Department as he expressed in January 2016.

Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Jen Persson
