Student continuation of study, year on year, by course

Mathew Sims made this Rhyddid Gwybodaeth request to University of Edinburgh as part of a batch sent to 15 authorities

Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

We're waiting for Mathew Sims to read a recent response and update the status.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to request data about the number of students who progress from one year to the next on your degree courses, from the 2010-11 academic year, until the date of this request in the 2020-21 academic year.

I am primarily interested in students who 'drop out' of courses, as opposed to those who fail to progress due to not meeting academic requirements (e.g., failing exams) or who are removed from their courses for disciplinary reasons, therefore I should be grateful if your response could filter data in this way.

Please provide your response in Excel format (.xlsx) as a spreadsheet showing the number of students who start each of your courses, in each academic year, each year, and the number who 'drop out'. For example, for each academic year, a breakdown as follows, showing each course, and student numbers from year to year.

| Course | Year 1 started | Year 1 completed | Year 2 started | Year 2 completed |
|----------------|----------------|------------------|----------------|------------------|
| BA English | 100 | 90 | 93 | 92 |
| BSc Maths | 100 | 90 | 93 | 92 |
| BSc Biology | 100 | 90 | 93 | 92 |
| MSci Computing | 100 | 90 | 93 | 92 |

Alternatively, if this information is available elsewhere, or from another source (e.g., if information is held separately by colleges or faculties of your institution) please let me know.

Yours faithfully,

Mathew Sims
