Dear Colchester Borough Council,
I am writing to find out some information about stray dogs for the your annual year of 2015, 2016 and 2017.
I specified 'your annual year' as I know that some annual years do not run from January to December, if different please could you specify and adjust questions to fit your way.

Of a total of 119 occasions on which strays were collected 54 dogs were taken to kennels as they could not be returned to their owner shortly after collection.
How many were adopted? 39
How many were reclaimed by their owners?
79 of which 14 were reclaimed from kennels.
How many were euthanised? 1
How many go to animal rescues ie dogs trust? None

Of a total of 125 occasions on which strays were collected 87 dogs were taken to kennels as they could not be returned to their owner shortly after collection.

How many were reclaimed by their owners? 84 of which 32 were reclaimed from kennels

In each year some individual dogs have strayed on more than one occasion.
Whenever possible our kennels will re-home dogs which are not claimed.
* The Animal Control team use the same staff and resources for all animal-related matters including stray dogs, dog fouling education, pest control and reports of nuisance caused by pets. Therefore no separate budget or cost figures are held relating solely to stray dogs other than the kennel fees shown.
