Storage of letter envelopes and packaging of parcels in which court applications arrive
Dear Her Majesty’s Courts and the Tribunals Service,
This is the formal request under Freedom of Information Act:
1. Does High Court retain:
a) the letter envelope
b) packaging or any part of the parcel
when High Court receives court applications in it?
2. Does High Court have a policy on packaging retention?
3. If the applications are sent by recorded delivery does High Court retain packaging in those situations?
4. When applications arrive late does court retain the envelope/packaging as part of its evidence?
Yours faithfully,
Helen Bright
Dear Ms Bright
Please see the attached letter in relation to your FOI request.
Apologies for the delay.
Regards

Dear Miss Bright,
I apologise for the delay in responding to your email below. Lucy has now
left this team.
As your request is not for recorded information and therefore not covered
by the Freedom of Information Act I will respond outside the scope of the
Act as below.
There is no written policy on packaging retention and this does not
routinely happen except as a matter of good practice for recorded delivery
items. Items sent by recorded delivery are logged at the main post room
and then taken to each area for signing - the packaging is kept with the
recorded delivery bar code and other details listed on the envelope.
New applications are date stamped when received at post opening as proof
of arrival date.
