Dear Mr Turnbull

TfL Ref: FOI-0215-1314

Thank you for your email which we received on 8 May 2013 asking for
information about stolen Barclays Cycle Hire bikes.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can
confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked for:

Can you please tell me the figures of how many cycles from the hire scheme
both for the time up to the extension to the east and figures since the
extension.

A total of 39 bikes were reported stolen up until the eastern extension
(phase 2) of the Cycle Hire expansion. A total of 104 bikes have been
reported stolen since.

Of the 143 bikes reported stolen since the scheme start, 117 have been
recovered and 26 remain missing. This equates to 82% of all cycles
reported stolen being recovered.  More than 21 million journeys have been
made on Barclays Cycle Hire bikes, meaning there are more than 800,000
hires per missing bike.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
