Statistics on Pregnancy Losses (pre 24 weeks gestation)

Dear NHS Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group,

We are currently trying to get a picture of the number of people who have contact with clinicians as a result of a pregnancy loss before 24 weeks including chemical pregnancy, blighted ovum, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, miscarriage, missed miscarriage, termination for medical reasons, second trimester loss (late miscarriage) in the Birmingham and Solihull areas.

For the next phase of our business plan we need some hard data to back up the need for our pregnancy loss peer support groups. There is no official data and statistics vary 1 in 4 women, 1 in 4 pregnancies, 1 in 5 people and 1 in 5 pregnancies. Data for post 24 weeks loss is very easy to access and as our Service is for those who experience losses pre-24 weeks the data would us help us understand the landscape and scale of pregnancy losses across Birmingham and Solihull.

If there is any way you can help us to collate this information we would be really grateful.

Yours faithfully,
Catherine MacLennan
