Dear Mr McQueen

I refer to your freedom of information request below. I attach details setting out for each year, the number of enquiries received, the total number of applications for assistance considered by the Commission, the number of applications granted assistance and the number of applications refused assistance. The percentage of applications granted assistance in each year is also given. The information given for 2019/20 relate to the first 10 months of the year. These figures refer to all the grounds of unlawful discrimination which are set out below and some of the applications for assistance may relate to more than one type of discrimination.

You have also requested details relating to complaints of bullying, victimisation and harassment. The Commission can only consider applications for assistance where unlawful discrimination is being alleged on the grounds of race, age, sexual orientation, gender, religious belief/political opinion or disability. The legislation sets out specific definitions for harassment and victimisation on these grounds and bullying may also form the basis for a complaint. The Commission collates information on the basis of grounds of discrimination and not on the grounds of bullying, harassment and victimisation.

I trust that the above information is helpful.

Yours sincerely

Eoin O'Neill
