Statistics for students aged 21+ in England

The request was partially successful.

Dear The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service,

I am a journalism student writing a story about the increase in mature student applications following the COVID-19 pandemic. I am requesting statistics on the amount of students age 21+ who have applied and been accepted into university for 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21 and 2021/22 academic years. Any data that shows the amount of financial support that mature students receive would also be helpful.

Yours faithfully,

Drew Pauley

Further to your request for information please find below the response from UCAS in regard to the specific information you have requested. I am so sorry you have not received a timely reply; this was an administrative error.

You can find the information on our website here: https://www.ucas.com/data-and-analysis/u.... The number of applicants can be found in the Applicants tab and the number who accepted in the Acceptances tab. Both can be refined by age by clicking on the Age tab. The dashboard currently covers 2012 to 2021 and you can find the related tables in the csv files underneath the dashboard.

Unfortunately, UCAS does not hold data on what financial support is available to applicants and this will differ depending on the higher education providers they have applied to.

In terms of the data available on the UCAS website, as this information is accessible by other means, it is exempt from disclosure under Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

If you are not satisfied with the way in which we have responded to your request you may:

1) Contact us requesting that this matter is reviewed internally by UCAS. Your request will then be subject to our internal review process.
