(1) Total number of hackney cabs licensed by Edinburgh City Council;

(2) Percentage and/or numbers of cabs in the following age categories:

(a) over 20 years old
(b) 15 - 20 years old
(c) 10 - 15 years old
(d) 5 - 10 years old
(e) under 5 years old

(3) Average test percentage failure rate of hackney cabs at first presentation in the past 12 months.

Subject: Statistics for Hackney Cabs

Thank you for your request for information of 26/06/2016, which has been processed under the terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. Unfortunately, the Council is only able to meet part of your request; this information is released to you below.

(1) Total number of hackney cabs licensed by Edinburgh City Council

The Council published Licensing Registers which provides this information. http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/fi... At present we have 1316 licensed taxis.

(2) Percentage and/or numbers of cabs in the following age categories:

(a) over 20 years old
1 – 0.07%

(b) 15 - 20 years old
140 – 11%

(c) 10 - 15 years old
203 – 16%

(d) 5 - 10 years old
353 – 28%

(e) under 5 years old
570 – 45%

The 49 that are not included in the table are in the process of vetting.

(3) Average test percentage failure rate of hackney cabs at first presentation in the past 12 months.

Under the terms of the Act, a request for information can be refused where one or more of the exemptions listed in the Act apply. In this instance, the Council is claiming an exemption under section 25 of the Act because the information is ‘otherwise accessible’.
