Statistics

The request was successful.

Dear Student Loans Company Limited,

In your end of year figures which were released on your website yesterday (June 22) there was a table 2(iii) titled Student Loan outlay and repayments.

In previous years this table has had a section at the bottom of the left hand column titled "(C) Borrowers with accounts liable for repayment" which has then broken down the figure by seven different categories including 'below earnings threshold'.

In this year's table 2(iii) those seven sub-categories have not been displayed.

Please provide me with all the information/documents/correspondence/e-mails you hold that relates to the decision to alter the appearance of table 2(iii) in this year's report so that the seven sub-categories are NOT displayed.

Yours faithfully,

Matthew Davis

Dear Mr Davis

Thank you for your email dated 23/06/10 requesting information under the
Freedom of Information Act. Your request has been logged under reference
52-10. Please quote this reference in future communications.

By way of response, various statistics were published on 22/06/2010,
however I have ascertained that the table you refer to is Table 2(iii) in
the statistics "Student Loans for Higher Education in England, financial
year 2009/10". I would refer you to the Appendix C "Notes for Editors",
number 4, which states that:

"Sub sections given in previous years to Section C of table 2 (iii) have
been removed from this publication as this has now been superseded by Table
3 of the related publication ‘Income Contingent Repayments by Repayment
Cohort and Tax Year’. "

The breakdown you refer to as NOT being displayed, is in fact displayed
under this related publication, which supplements the Student Loans for
Higher Education in England publication. The link for this is:

http://www.slc.co.uk/pdf/SLCOSP032010.pdf

I would therefore direct you to this link to be satisfied that the
breakdown you refer to is still published by SLC, and it provides a more
detailed analysis of information previously published under Table 2(iii) of
previously published statistics.

As the breakdown is still currently published by SLC, albeit in a separate
publication, and a suitable explanation has been provided, I trust my
answer is satisfactory. If you require further information in relation to
the decision behind publishing this information in a separate publication,
please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are unhappy with the decisions made by me in relation to your
freedom of information request, you may ask SLC for an internal review.
Any such appeal would be conducted by Chris Andrew, Company Secretary, 100
Bothwell Street, Glasgow, G2 7JD. You may request a review by writing to
Chris Andrew or by emailing the FOI Office
([SLC request email]). SLC will only consider requests for
internal reviews which are made within 3 months of the date of our original
response (except in exceptional circumstances).

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
