State School, BAME, non-EU international and EU international admission statistics for 2018 or 2019

Roedd y cais yn rhannol lwyddiannus.

Dear King's College, Cambridge,
I would be very grateful if I could have the percentage of state school, BAME, non-EU international and EU international students admitted to King's in 2018 or 2019. It would be great to have a percentage for each of the four categories.

Yours faithfully,

Maz M

Dear Maz M,

This is in reply to your enquiry received by the College on 12 August 2020
and made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). I can confirm
that the College does hold some information related to your request. The
information as held by the College is:

The state school percentages are already published and can be found at
[1]http://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk..., where you
will find documents containing annual statistics (University-wide but
including a section on College statistics) and a graph generator.

We do not have data for ethnicity (the application form does not ask for
this), so we can`t give percentages of BAME students.

The question about non-EU international and EU international admission
statistics is rather complicated, as many students have dual nationality
(UK and another country, or two foreign countries: EU/non-EU, both EU or
both non-EU). For that reason, I will give numbers of students and an
explanation of how that figure was reached, rather than percentages. Had I
provided percentages, the numbers would not add up to a 100%, due to the
necessity to count some students twice.

2018
135 students admitted, with 40 having at least one nationality outside of
the United Kingdom.
International students with at least one nationality being an EU country
other than the United Kingdom: 16
International students with at least one non-EU nationality: 25
Students with dual nationality where both countries are EU or both
countries are non-EU have only been counted once, whereas students with
dual nationality including both EU and non-EU have been counted in both
categories. Where dual nationality includes the United Kingdom, only the
other nationality has been taken into consideration in these figures.

2019
126 students admitted, with 40 having at least one nationality outside of
the United Kingdom.
International students with at least one nationality being an EU country
other than the United Kingdom: 18
International students with at least one non-EU nationality: 25
Students with dual nationality where both countries are EU or both
countries are non-EU have only been counted once, whereas students with
dual nationality including both EU and non-EU have been counted in both
categories. Where dual nationality includes the United Kingdom, only the
other nationality has been taken into consideration in these figures.

If you have further questions please ask me in the first instance. I
attach a leaflet outlining the College's FOI Act policies and procedures.
If, after following those procedures you are still not satisfied with the
way in which your request has been dealt with you may apply directly to
the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the Commissioner
will not entertain your complaint unless you have exhausted any relevant
internal review procedures.
Yours sincerely
Peter Jones
