29^th November 2018

Dear Ms. Bennett

I write in response to your request for information dated 31^st October,
2018, received by the University and passed to me as the University’s
Freedom of Information Officer for action.

In response to your question one:

•     Do you require employees to undertake mandatory training?

Yes the University does require employees to undertake mandatory training.

In response to your question two:

•     And if so, is that for all staff (Full time/Part
time/Sessional/Visiting etc.)

Yes the requirement is for all staff - full-time, part-time, sessional and
visiting members of staff.

In response to your question three:

•     What areas does the mandatory training cover?

The mandatory training covers the following areas:

GDPR
The Prevent Duty (most roles)
Anti-bribery and Corruption
Equality and Inclusion

Health and Safety

Protecting Students’ Consumer Rights (some roles)
Induction (New Staff)

General health, safety and environment awareness

Fire safety

Display screen equipment

Unless otherwise indicated the above training is required for all members
of staff.

In response to your question four:

•     What happens if an employee does not complete the training in the
required timescale?

If a member of staff is new to the institution their probation period will
be extended to allow them time to complete any outstanding training. For
all staff a continuing failure to complete any mandatory training is
considered a refusal of a reasonable management request and can result the
application of the University’s disciplinary policy.

In response to your question five:

•     Please provide copies of the policies/procedures regarding staff
training
