This is a formal request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Could you please provide the following pieces of information:

College pay spine
Staff headcount (aggregated) for the past year
Staff headcount (disaggregated by grade) for the past year
The number of fixed-term contracts, open-ended and permanent contracts for the past year. If the College operates a grade system, please provide a breakdown by grade.
The number of individuals providing piecework for the College in the past year
Undergraduate supervisors headcount for the past year (aggregated)
Supervisors headcount for the past year disaggregated by staff category (UTO, postdoc, CTO, graduate students)
Pay rates for piecework (DoSing, supervisions, admission interviews)

In its guidance the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) says that the requirement to respond 'promptly' and the requirement to respond no later than 20 working days are to be considered as separate obligations. Public bodies should be able to justify why it took them as long as 20 days to respond to requests in cases where they do not act more promptly than that "long stop" deadline. Dear Max,

Thank you for your email which contained a request for information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act.

I am attaching copies of the 2 salary scales used by the College. Please note that these are correct at today's date but do not reflect the cost of living award from 1st April 2023. The first scale relates to staff who work for 36.67 hours a week and the second scale relates to staff who work for 40 hours a week.

The headcount for the past year is 350 - but we do not operate a grade system and cannot therefore disaggregate the number on that basis.

We have 250 staff on open-ended / permanent contracts and 2 staff on fixed-term contracts. Please note that by Statute our Research Fellowships are limited to 3 years, but I have not included these Fellowships as being fixed-term contracts.

The two categories who I would consider to approximate to 'piecework' are supervisors who are not Fellows of the College and admissions interviewers who are not Fellows of the College. To date in 2022/23 we have used 49 supervisors who are not Fellows of the College. In the December 2022 interviews we used 43 interviewers who are not Fellows of the College. Please note that there is a significant degree of overlap between these two groups.

To date in 2022/23 we have used 77 supervisors, but we do not hold complete data on 'staff category' and I am therefore unable to disaggregate this number on the basis that you have requested.

We currently pay between £32.57 and £47.04 for each supervision depending on the number of students attending. We pay £16.28 for each admissions interview.

I am attaching a record of recent cost of living awards applied by the College.

We do not use contracts or letter of appointment for Directors of Studies or Tutors. Equally we no longer appoint College Teaching Officers and we do not have a template contract for such appointments. I am attaching the template letter of appointment which applies to Research Fellows.

I just have one small query. You say that you are unable to disagregate supervisors by staff category, but other colleges have shared with me the staff category classifications available through CAMCORS. Would it be possible for you to do the same for Emmanuel?
