Rachael Venables made this Rhyddid Gwybodaeth request to Derbyshire Constabulary as part of a batch sent to 47 authorities

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear Derbyshire Constabulary,

1. What is your forces' policy on using spit guards or hoods. If you do use them - what was the first date of their implementation?

2. How many times have you recorded spit guards or hoods being used?
- Please divide the data by the individual's age, gender and ethnicity. If possible, can you also include in how many cases the individual had either known, or suspected, mental health problems?

3. If this is possible, please include the full list of complaints made against the police involving the use of spit hoods (including details).

If you are unable to proceed with all of the above, due either to the information not being held, or the data exceeding your time limits, please provide the rest of the information.

I wish to be informed in writing whether you have such information and, if so, I seek the disclosure of that information. If the information is covered by any exemptions, please disclose such information as is not covered by the exemptions.

Dear Ms Venables,

Thank you for your recent FOI concerning the above which is currently
receiving attention.

However, in order to best respond I seek clarification on the following
point.

In relation to Question 2 and 3, please confirm what period you require
the information to and from, e.g for the period of January 2018 to
December 2018.

I also need to add that pending receipt of this clarification I have
placed your request on hold where it will remain for 20 working days and
that if nothing is received within this period I will assume that the
information is no longer required and close the FOI down marked as
‘withdrawn’.

Kind Regards,

Dear Freedom of Information Office,

Many thanks for your email. I refer to the whole period of time that they have been used for - so they total number of uses and complaints in the force history. Is that possible?

Yours sincerely,

Rachael Venables

Dear Freedom of Information Office,

Many thanks for sending that over. The only issue is that it has arrived in a format that is very difficult to read, is there any way that you could provide it slightly clearer?

Many thanks

Yours sincerely,

Rachael Venables

Hello Rachael

If you expand the columns, the data is broken down as per your request. Unfortunately data before 2016 with regard to age and gender and ethnicity cannot be retrieved, hence empty cells, but stills show the number of occasions spit guards/hoods were used.

Hope this assists

Kind Regards

Christine South
