Dear Mrs Mason

Thank you for your email to our Customer Contact Centre on 6th October
2021 to request details of the speeds set on the southbound M1 between
junction 17 and 16 on the 29th September 2021 at 12:17.

The information you have requested is information we make available to the
public on a regular basis. Your request has been handled under normal
business practices and not in accordance with the Freedom of Information
Act.

I have performed a search of our signal data on a system called HALOGEN.

HALOGEN automatically records all signal setting whether set manually by
an operator or automatically by the system itself.

I performed a search covering the timeframe of 12:00 to 12:45 to ensure
any signals displaying speeds that had been set prior to the requested
time but still displaying at 12:17 were included.

I have placed the results in the table below -

At 12:17 there were 4 signal devices displaying reduced speeds, 3171B
displaying 60mph on all lanes, 3159B displaying 60mph on all lanes, 3146B
displaying 50mph and a lane 1 divert right and finally 3138B displaying a
Red X lane 1 closure and 40mph on lanes 2, 3 and 4.

Please note that enforcement of speed restrictions is the responsibility
of the police. We are unable to comment on or provide you with advice
about alleged offences because information held by the police will always
take legal precedence. This response is for information only and cannot be
used in court for challenging an allegation of offending.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Should you require any
further information, please contact our Customer Contact Centre by
[1]email, or alternatively you can call us on 0300 123 5000. Please quote
the above reference number so your enquiry can be dealt with more quickly.
If you’re not satisfied with my response or how I have handled your
enquiry, please see our [2]complaints procedure for advice on what to do
next.

To help us identify and make improvements to our responses, I’d be
grateful if you can please complete our feedback survey by clicking
