The request was successful.

Dear Nottinghamshire Police,

1. Does the Special Constabulary currently have a rank structure?
If yes:
2. What are the names of the ranks?
3. What rank insignia do they use? (Please provide pictures if possible)
4. When did the Special Constabulary move to their current insignia?
5. Does the force use any force emblems on their rank sliders/epaulettes? If so, please describe or include image.
6. If the insignia differs from regular officers, are there any plans to transition to match regular officers?
7. Does the force use the SC and Crown to identify Special Constables?

Yours faithfully,

Dear Karen,
Thank you for your response. I do have two clarifications which I hope you can help me with. You state that the Specials Chief Officer epaulette is name and crest. You can you clarify what "crest" looks like? Is it a wreath with bars inside? If so, how many bars? Or is it a wreath with batons such as the regular ACC rank insignia? Are there any crowns in addition to the wreath such as what a regular Chief Constable would have?

I have some examples which many assist:
Wreath with four bars: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CO.svg
Wreath with three bars: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:DCO.svg
Wreath with batons: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:NPIA_...

My second clarification is regarding the use of SC and Crowns such as on here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Leice... You state that Nottinghamshire do use them, but Nottinghamshire's Specials Twitter feed has photos that don't show them. Are they old photos or is this information incorrect? An example is here: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DxHbH4FXcAEb...

Thanks in advance.

Yours sincerely,

Chris Burns

Dear Chris,

Thank you for your email.

1) The epaulette has a wreath, with four silver bars inside the wreath with a crown above the wreath.
2) The crest is only on the epaulette of a Special Chief Officer.

I hope this clarification answers your query, please do not hesitate to contact me if you need anything else.

Karen Cook
