Dear Sutton Housing Partnership,

I am writing to request information on sound recording machines used for investigating noise nuisance complaints.

Can you please provide the following information:

- Over the past 24 months, on how many occasions were sound recording machines installed to investigate a noise nuisance complaint?
- On how many of the occasions when a sound recorder was installed did SHP gather evidence of the noise nuisance reported?
- On how many of the occasions when a sound recorder was installed was there an issue with the machine/ did it not work properly?
- On how many occasions over the past 24 months did SHP take action against a resident due to noise nuisance?
- What is the current waiting time for a sound recording machine?

November 2015 relating to use of sound recording machines for noise
nuisance by SHP
Your request is being considered and, if it is held, you will receive
the information requested within the statutory timescale of 20 working
days as defined by the Freedom of Information Act 2000, subject to the
information not being exempt or containing a reference to a third party.
If appropriate, the information may be provided in paper copy, normal

For your information, the Act defines a number of exemptions which may
prevent release of the information you have requested.  There will be an
assessment and if any of the exemption categories apply then the
information will not be released.  You will be informed if this is the

I refer to your request for information received on the 23^rd of November
concerning Sound Recording Machines  

Please see below the answers to your queries in order of your questions:

·         SHP has installed sound recording equipment in 26 homes in the
past 24 months.

·         The results from sound recording equipment are variable. In most
cases there was some evidence of noise nuisance but insufficient to
support legal action.

·         The equipment has failed on 2 occasions in the past 24 months
due to a defect.

·         SHP has taken legal action or is in the process of taking legal
action against 4 residents for noise nuisance. In several other cases
where legal proceedings have been issued, noise nuisance is a contributory
factor along with other incidents of anti-social behaviour.

·         The current waiting time for sound recording equipment is
approximately 10 working days. 

If you are unhappy with the way in which your request has been handled you
have the right to ask for an internal review.  Please notify us in writing
as soon as possible with the grounds upon which you feel the appeal is
