Also we have just begun a review of our waiting list in line with the new

c) An articulation of what the Council views as priority individuals on
the social housing waiting list

In accordance with legislation, an applicant can be awarded a reasonable
preference (recognised housing need) if their circumstances fall within
any of these five groups:

·         People who are homeless as defined by homelessness legislation

·         People who are homeless and owed certain duties by any housing
authority as defined by homelessness legislation

·         People who are living in insanitary or overcrowded housing or
living in unsatisfactory housing conditions

·         People who have a serious medical, disability or welfare problem
which is directly affected by their current housing circumstances

·         People who need to move to a particular locality within the
district of the housing authority where failure to meet that need would
cause hardship (to themselves or to others)

Our allocations policy allows for another, non-statutory reasonable
preference for working applicants. This is only awarded if the applicant
already falls into one or more of the above categories

d) A clarification for as to whether the Council gives priority to
individuals with local family links on the social housing list.

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham does not give a priority to
individuals with local family links on the social housing list.
