Dear Mr McGartland

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated November 1^st
2011, which has been given a departmental reference of
01-11-2011-144146-004

All information known to the MOD concerning shipments of
weapons/ammunition supplied to the IRA from Gaddafi's Libya.

To assist us in assessing if we have any information in scope of your
request, can you please confirm the specific timescales that you wish your
request to cover with regards to the period of Col Gaddafi`s regime in
Libya.

You are requested to note that Section 12 of the Act makes provision for
public authorities to refuse requests for information where the cost of
dealing with them would exceed the appropriate limit, which for central
government is set at £600. This represents the estimated cost of one
person spending 3.5 working days in determining whether the department
holds the information, locating, retrieving and extracting the
information.

Therefore, please bear this in mind when confirming the specific
timescales that you wish your request to cover.

If you are not satisfied with this response or you wish to complain about
any aspect of the handling of your request, then you should contact me in
the first instance. If informal resolution is not possible and you are
still dissatisfied then you may apply for an independent internal review
by contacting the Head of Corporate Information, 2^nd Floor, MOD Main
Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB (e-mail [1][email address]). Please note
that any request for an internal review must be made within 40 working
days of the date on which the attempt to reach informal resolution has
come to an end.

If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may take your
complaint to the Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section
50 of the Freedom of Information Act. Please note that the Information
Commissioner will not investigate your case until the MOD internal review
process has been completed. Further details of the role and powers of the
Information Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's website,
[2]http://www.ico.gov.uk.

I look forward to your response.

 Regards

Dear Sec Pol Ops-DU BM2 (Skerritt, Simon C2),

Thank you for your reply. You will see from my request I asked for: 'All information known to the MOD concerning shipments of weapons/ammunition supplied to the IRA from Gaddafi's Libya.'

In your reply of today (04-11-2011) you included following; "To assist us in assessing if we have any information in scope of your request, can you please confirm the specific timescales that you wish your
request to cover with regards to the period of Col Gaddafi`s regime in Libya."

I did ask for 'all' of the information. Do the MOD have a large amount of information on 'shipments of weapons/ammunition supplied to the IRA from Gaddafi's Libya.' If so, please supply all of it.

It would be better if the MOD would 'assist' me, i.e. if you have the requested information you could simply release it.

Failing above I can confirm the timescale whould be the 10 years between January 1987 and January 1997.

Yours sincerely,

Martin McGartland
