Sequence and other Information regarding "Indian Variant"

We're waiting for Nicholas Wells to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Public Health England ("PHE", "you"),

PHE make reference to something you refer to as B.1.617.2 ("Indian Variant"), which you determine as being a variant to the thing you refer to as the SARS-CoV-2 virus ("Coronavirus").

In relation to the above and the communications you have produced, please answer the following request made under the Freedom of Information Act:

1) Since you became aware of the Indian Variant, how many samples of what you determine as a positive test of Coronavirus have been taken and analysed for the Indian Variant and how many (percentage) of those samples analysed produced a positive result for the Indian Variant up to and including 14 May 2021?
2) What data do you hold to suggest that the Indian Variant is more likely to cause severe disease or mortality?
3) If the answer to 2) above is no data, then why do you determine the Indian Variant as a "variant of concern"?
4) What data do you hold to suggest that naturally or artificially acquired immunity to Coronavirus or natural pre-existing immunity to any pathogen (a functioning immune system) will not afford protection to the Indian Variant?
5) On the PHE website it states "The way to control [Coronavirus] is the same, whatever the variant. It will not spread if we avoid close contact with others. Wash your hands, wear a mask, keep your distance from others, and reduce your social contacts." What data do you hold to support the claim that the Coronavirus, including the Indian Variant will not spread if people avoid close contact, wash hands, wear a mask and reduce social contact?
6) If you can substantiate the claim in 5) with supporting data and these measures you list completely stop the spread of the Coronavirus, why do you promote Coronavirus vaccines?

Yours faithfully,

Nicholas Wells
