Dear Ms Glister

I forwarded your request to our records department, but I can now tell you that our Barristers' Register, which was down when I received your email, is now back up on the Bar Standards Board website, so you can look the person up yourself.
https://www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/for...

I've done a search and I cannot find anyone with those initials and surname.

Yours sincerely

Alexandra Paynter, General Council of the Bar

Dear Mr Glister,

Thank you for your email.

I have checked our records, which return to the 1960’s and I confirm that
we have no record of a barrister by the name of M C Mackenzie as a
Barrister of England and Wales.

If a person has not qualified as a barrister, they cannot use the term
“barrister” at all.

It is against the law for someone to (deliberately or wilfully) pretend to
be a barrister when they are not, or to use any name, title or description
that makes it seem as though they are a barrister when they are not.

Further details about the above may be found on the Bar Standards Board
website ‘[1]Is the person I’m dealing with really a barrister’

If you have been targeted by a scam email, do not give out any money or
personal details up front.  You should contact your police if you believe
you have fallen victim to a scam.  If you are based outside of the UK,
please contact your local law enforcement agency.

I am sorry that I am not able to help you further and if you are in doubt
to his/her legitimacy - you certainly should not give out any personal
information or part with money.

Yours Sincerely,

Alex Paynter
