Attention is drawn to the glossy brochure that is the National Suicide Prevention Leadership Group (NSPLG)  2nd Annual Report that can be downloaded from the Scottish Government website.
This group is chaired by former Police Scotland DCC Rose Fitzpatrick.
There would appear to be delays in the reporting of suicides due to delays in the toxicology analysis due to the "COVID-19 pandemic".
It is hoped that the current numbers of suicides and the suicide rate (numbers per 100,000 by age and gender) will be provided.

A Tweet from the NSPLG dated 24 November 2020 indicated that the suicide rate had increased by 6% in 2019, that was before the COVID-19 financial distress and lockdown measures were introduced by the Scottish Government.

The release of data for suicides in 2020 in June 2021 seems to be incongruous given that the number of deaths from COVID-19 are released weekly and that the statistics from the National Records of Scotland show that the deaths from COVID-19 average around the average age of mortality in the Scottish population as a whole.
It would be understandable that data on suicides would be delayed due to police enquiries/ autopsies/toxicology reports etc but to delay reporting for this length of time does not seem to be proportionate under the circumstances of the 2019 rising suicide death rate.
