Dear Atisha,

Please see the attached response to your FOI request, asking for
information about various numbers of schools in each Local Authority
between 2005-2016.  You have written to each Regional Schools Commissioner
with the same request for each of their regions and this response applies
to all 8 requests.

Kind regards

Steve

Dear RSC, EMH,

This is in reference to FOI reference Number 2016 0049794. Thank you for the information. However, all the schools in the Edubase website does not have their establishment date. Where can that be found?

Yours sincerely,

Atisha Ghosh

Dear Atisha - thank you for your email. Apologies that I've taken so long to give you a reply. I've been trying to find out the answer from our data colleagues.

Unfortunately there are a large proportion of schools with no opening date in the dataset. This is because before 2007 Local Authorities were responsible for opening and closing schools and they weren't obliged to provide the Department with opening dates, only that a school had opened or closed.

Therefore, we don't hold that information universally for schools that opened before that point. The dataset does have the opening dates for approximately 12,000 schools, ranging from 1753 to schools proposed to open in 2020.

The team who manage edubase suggested contacting Local Authorities directly for pre-2007 as they may have the opening/closing dates.

Regards
Steve
