Dear Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council,
Please can you confirm the total spend on third party agencies for the provision of educational supply staff by your local authority.
I would like to know the amounts paid by each Primary, Secondary and FE Institution in the local authority, in relation to temporary staffing cover (Teachers, Cover Supervisors, Unqualified Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Nursery Nurses etc).
The time frames I require are from 1st September 2019 until present if at all possible.
Please could you supply this information (in excel) for each school including school name, type of school, amount spent, and the company this money was paid to.
Many thanks in advance.
Thank you for your request for information ( FOI 5507523 ) submitted under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 which has been given the above mentioned reference number. Please quote this on any correspondence regarding your request.
Stockport Council will respond to your request within 20 working days from the date of receipt. If there will be a charge for disbursements e.g. photocopying in order to provide the information, we will inform you as soon as possible to see if you wish to proceed; however such charges are usually waived if they amount to less than £10.

Dear Ms Fenlon,
I am writing in response to your request for information (ref FOI 5507523
The relevant Council Service(s) has searched for the requested information
and our response is as follows.
Please can you confirm the total spend on third party agencies for the
provision of educational supply staff by your local authority.
I would like to know the amounts paid by each Primary, Secondary and FE
Institution in the local authority, in relation to temporary staffing
cover (Teachers, Cover Supervisors, Unqualified Teachers, Teaching
Assistants, Nursery Nurses etc).
The time frames I require are from 1st September 2019 until present if at
The request asks for information from September 2019 to present, however
as school expenditure is reported by financial year not academic year we
do not have the information available yet to provide. Expenditure is
reported at Consistent Financial Reporting (CFR) headings which is not
finalised until the end of the financial year.
As noted below any information held by the council would only represent a
small part of schools individual expenditure as the majority is procured
directly by the schools themselves.
The FOI request also asks for total spend on third party agencies for the
provision of educational supply staff.
As Schools are responsible for their own budgets for the provision of
services they may decide to engage and procure supply cover directly from
3rd party external agencies, however as such procurement is direct with
3rd party agencies, the Local Authority would not hold information on
individual agencies and/or teachers/support staff concerned.
If the submitter of the request requires this information separate
requests would need to be directed to each individual school.
If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request for
information, you are entitled to ask for an internal review; however you
must do so within 40 working days of the date of this response. Any
internal review will be carried out by a senior member of staff who was
not involved with your original request. To ask for an internal review,
contact [email address] in the first instance.
If you are unhappy with the outcome of any internal review, you are
entitled to complain to the Information Commissioner. To do so, contact:
