Thank you for your request for information received 23rd May 2022. We have
considered your request and enclose the following information:
School Based Counselling Services, Penallta House, Tredomen Park, Ystrad
(1) What is the current waiting time from being referred to first
We record this information in the following way: Working days waiting 0-5,
6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21+.
On this basis, 20% of pupils had a 0-10 day wait; 7% had a 2-4 week wait
and 73% had a wait of 21+ days.
(2) How many individuals are currently awaiting their first appointment.
Information not held as the schools hold the waiting list. The LEA only
collate this information from the point that the referral form is passed
to us, which is when a space becomes available.
You may wish to contact schools directly for this information as they are
also covered by the Freedom of Information Act. Please find below a link

schools in Caerphilly
(3) How many individuals are currently being reviewed under the scheme.
439 pupils have been seen during the current academic year.

January to December 2019 - 164 pupils
January to December 2020 – 151 pupils
January to December 2021 – 207 pupils
January to 23rd of May 2022 – 54 pupils
(5) How many sessions' are offered.
We operate a up to 8-week time-limited model of counselling support.
Should pupils require additional sessions beyond the 8 weeks, then this is
reviewed and allocated on a case-by-case basis.
(6) How many counsellors do you have available for the Caerphilly Borough.

(7) How many schools are in the Caerphilly Borough that are able to access
School-based counselling support is available to all pupils on roll at a
Caerphilly school from school years 4 to 13. This also includes our EOTAS
settings and special school. In total this amounts to 81 schools and 3
