Dear Nargees,
It's since been ten days since your last email and yet I have not received any contact as you suggested I would.
I would be very grateful if you could chase this on my behalf.
Yours sincerely,
James Bell
Dear Mr Bell,
Thank you for your interest in the Inn’s scholarships.
You will be aware that, like all the Inns of Court, Middle Temple is not a
public sector organisation and therefore not obliged to answer a FOI
request, but as we take pride in our scholarship scheme, we are of course
happy to answer your questions. The figures for 2012/13 are as follows:
1. The total amount of money given in GDL/CPE awards: £89K
2. The total number of applications for GDL/CPE awards: 41
3. The total number of awards given for the GDL/CPE: 16
4. The total amount of money given in BPTC awards: £875K
5. The total number of applications for BPTC awards: 286
6. The total number of awards given for the BPTC: 114
Two additional points. First, the funds were greater for 2014/15 (£1.05
million for the BPTC awards, £100K for the GDL awards). Second, Middle
Temple’s policy and practice is to offer an interview to all applicants
who have secured a place on the relevant course. Some applicants withdraw
or do not attend for interview, so the number of applications can be
misleading.
The Inn does not have a set number of awards to make each year, but rather
a set sum of money which is allocated to candidates of merit. The number
of awards therefore varies from year to year.
With best wishes,
Christa Richmond
