Salt + Grit Stocks Held by Month, Deliveries Received

The request was partially successful.

Dear Bromley Borough Council,

Please provide an XLS (not XLSX) Spreadsheet which contains details of the stocks of salt / grit held for each month over the past 7 years.

Column Headings:

DATE
STOCK at start of month
DELIVERY during month
STOCK at end of month
ROAD LENGTH - total
ROAD LENGTH - borough roads
ROAD LENGTH - TfL roads

DELIVERY column to include sub columns for each delivery during month - DATE, AMOUNT
Where a delivery is say 10 lorries of 30 tons, that to be made clear - the individual lorry movements are not required

Rows:

2004 - January
then every month to
2010 - December

It is anticipated that there will be little change in the road length columns, but some new roads are likely to have opened, or come under or left council or TfL control

Please clarify how dual carriageways are counted for the purpose of determining total road length.

Yours faithfully,

Kwame Opoku

Dudley, Mike, Bromley Borough Council

Dear Kwame Opoku, we have two separate salt depots in Bromley, one in the
north of the borough and one in the more rural south.

Bromleys winter service runs from November to the end of March but these
dates can be changed according to the prevailing conditions. Salt is
ordered during the summer in preparation for winter and maximum capacities
are in place by the start of the winter service period.

We do not keep the information you require on spread sheets however our
salt stocks have been as follows since 2004.

From November 2004 to November 2008 total salt stocks were: Central Depot
- 2000 tonnes(t), Southern Depot - 2030 Tonnes(t)

Following the severe winter of 2008/09 we upgraded our southern depot,
during the spring/summer, increasing the capacity.

At the beginning of November 2009 total salt stocks were then: Central
Depot - 2000t, Southern Depot - >4000t.

Salt deliveries from August to early November 2010 brought total salt
stocks up to: Central Depot - 2000t, Southern Depot - >7000t.

The London Borough of Bromley road network is 500 miles long.

The winter Service priority network for salting/snow clearance is 200
miles (Priority 1) and 60 miles (Priority 2).

Bromley has very few dual carriageways but for winter service purposes
both lanes are treated.

TfL are responsible for 12 miles of road within the Borough boundary.
