This information is held

Hastings Elizabethan Charter is a Charter of Incorporation by Letters
Patent to the Barons and inhabitants of the vill and port of Hastings,
dated 14 February 1589.
It is in Latin, on 3 skins of vellum joined together to form one long roll
165 cm long. It cannot be copied but a transcript is attached.

The other Royal Charters of the town relate to Hastings as a Cinque Port.

Attested copy of Charter of Confirmation of 6 June 1205 by King John to
Barons of Hastings. Latin transcript attached.

Charter of Confirmation of Edward I to Cinque Ports confirming previous
charters, 17 June 1278.

Charter of Edward III to Cinque Ports, 1 July 1364.

There are other copies of Inspeximus Charters affirming previous
charters.

We are unable to photocopy the charters as they are too fragile, however
If you would like to make an appointment to view then please contact The
Hastings Museum and Art Gallery on 01424 451065.
