Robert Milligan statue

The request was successful.

Dear Tower Hamlets Borough Council,

Can you tell me who approved the removal of the statue?

What was the process as there was no public consultation?

Where is it now?

Will other things associated with him have their names changed?

Has the council considered the wider impact for example books in libraries which some may consider offensive?

Yours faithfully,

Abdul Hai

Dear Tower Hamlets Borough Council,

My FOI was based on the following tweet from your communications service @towerhamletsnow

Tonight, we have removed the statue of slave trader Robert Milligan that previously stood at West India Quay. We have also announced a review into monuments and other sites in our borough to understand how we should represent the more troubling periods in our history.

However I have since been informed by a source that the statue is on Canal and River Trust land and that they need planning permission to change a Grade 1 liste structure.

Can you tell me when was the planning application submitted and can I have all documents associated with it?

Yours faithfully,

Abdul Hai
